my little moon poem 🌙
I recently wrote a poem titled "Moon-Are You Awake" on a hot summer night in June. I received my inspiration from 3 places: the moon, Isaiah 60:19-20, and Nancy Demoss Wolgemuth's (from Revive Our Hearts podcast ) recurring message that Heaven rules.
"The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end."

O you of wondrous beauty,Your pedals of red, white, and purpleBragging your lovely gowns of color and dainty. In all this, forget not your brief and appointed fateFor fading flowers and withering grass are part of life,But gaze --Gaze into the starry nightGaze intently, boldly:Moon of night, are you awake with your glorious shimmer?Yes- is the replyWith this, grow gently dear tender blossoms,The rule of Heaven will watch over you tonight.
O you precious creatures, far and wide,
The array of styles -- your fur-skin & hard-scale
Echoing the Ancient of Days, His wisdom and care.
In this, fail not to remember your fleeting hours
For all will wane and ebb in time
But examine --
Examine the dark celestial evening
Examine attentively, ardently:
Moon of night, are you awake in your beams of silver?
Yes- is the reply
With this, play peacefully dear wandering beasts,
The rule of Heaven will watch over you through nighttime.
O you exalted, towering highlands,
And the grandeur of your cold snow-capped peak
Reaching towards the heights of His throne room.
In this, neglect not your brevity
For frosty heights may shake and hills be moved
But survey --
Survey upward the glow of the crescent
Survey closely, bravely:
Moon of night, are you awake with your brilliant gleams of light?
Yes-is the reply
With this, stand strongly dear high sierras,
The rule of Heaven will watch over you through twilight.
O you fierce and burning Medallion,
Your rays of warmth and illumination
Showing streaks of radiance through dawn to dusk.
In all this, overlook not the coming day of your end
For sunless morn shall soon arrive
But watch --
Watch closely the star-filled universe
Watch eagerly, calmly:
Moon of night, are you awake with your gentle lusters?
Yes-is the reply
With this, glow graciously dear beloved Daystar,
The rule of Heaven will watch over you this nightfall.
O you blessed man of Divine air and unfolding,
Your palettes of personality and human loveliness
Reflecting the splendors of the Potter’s hand.
In this, disregard not your swift passing years on earth,
For world will fail and air abort
But behold,
Behold the stillness of starlight
Behold hopefully, expectantly:
Moon of night, are you awake in your glistening brightness?
No-is the reply
Even with this, sleep soundly dear treasured mortal,
Though sun has stilled and moon has mourned,
The rule of Heaven will watch over you through eventide and forevermore.
Love,
Emily
